I’m Emma, a journalist and creative writer nestled in small-town Vermont. After studying writing at the University of Iowa and traveling around the country gathering stories, I am now embarking on my own novel.
Set amongst the cobblestone streets of Annapolis, at a small classics college, a young freshman girl and an elderly professor meet. Bound by their love for classical literature, while studying the odyssey of the Greeks and Roman’s — diving into the divine teachings of Homer, Plato, and Euclid — these two people come together to form a lasting bond. As the story unravels, each navigates their own journey of grief, self-discovery, and acceptance. Meeting at small intimate touch points, my novel attempts to grapple with the fate and mysticism embedded in the classics, bringing it into the modern moment, and exploring how these eternal concepts nestle in the human experience, and are present in each of us.
My writing seeks to explore the interiority of people — how they conceptualise and understand themselves and the world around them. I believe we each contain multitudes. To dive into the surreal, the metaphysical in an attempt to bridge the space between a persons internal psyche and external presence feels like my lifelong creative endeavor.
I’m so excited to share more of this writing journey with The Inksters community!
